With the help of beer lovers across Connecticut, Two Roads Brewing Co. was able to raise $2,000 in just a few short hours for the Connecticut Air and Space Center and The Sikorsky Historical Archives during its much anticipated Igor’s Dream bottle release.
The Connecticut Air and Space Center and The Sikorsky Historical Archives are both based in Stratford, CT down the street from the brewery. For the past seven years, when Two Roads releases its Igor’s Dream – a Russian Imperial Stout aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels, the Stratford-based brewery donates a portion of sales to the two aviation institutions.
Just a mile from our brewery in Stratford, CT is where the world’s first helicopter, piloted and designed by Igor Sikorsky, took flight in 1939. His company, Sikorsky Aircraft, is making helicopters in Stratford to this day.
Two Roads CEO Brad Hittle noted “as a private pilot and an avid history guy the name Igor’s Dream was an easy one to come up with. Mr. Sikorsky was not only an aviation visionary, he was also a great humanitarian whose mission was to save lives through the advent of the helicopter. Having his three sons and grandson Igor III here signing autographs and sharing stories was a complete thrill for me and hundreds of others who waited to speak with them. I’m also on the board of the CASC where we plan to restore as a museum the 1928 Curtiss Hangar at the Sikorsky Memorial Airport—every contribution helps to fulfill that cause.”
Tasting Room Manager Ted Pert, a Stratford native, also commented that “this year was just as successful as years past with over 1500 people coming to Two Roads. Everyone I talked to was proud to be a Stratford resident, especially on this day.”
